Thesis: Implementing and testing perceptual video quality metrics
In the context of the research activities of the Internet Media Group, we are looking for a master thesis student with strong interests video quality related issues, which are expected to become more and more important given the increase of videos available the web. In this work, the student is expected to implement and test the performance of a few algorithms proposed and fully described by standardization bodies such as ITU or in research papers, and make simple test comparisons on a small set of test video sequences with other, already implemented, widely used metrics such as PSNR. At the end of the research work the implementations will be made available to the research community. This will constitute a tangible asset in the curriculum of the student after graduation.
Requirements:
- Good programming skills (C or C++ or Matlab)
- Good ability to interpret and implement mathematical formulas

Nell’ambito delle attività di ricerca dell’Internet Media Group, si ricerca uno studente interessato alle tematiche relative alla qualita’ del video, che ci si aspetta diventino sempre piu’ centrali nel prossimo futuro in particolare a causa del sempre crescente numero di video presenti sul web. In questo lavoro lo studente dovra’ implementare e testare le prestazioni di alcuni algoritmi proposti e descritti da organismi internazionali quali ITU o in articoli di ricerca, e realizzare alcuni semplici test di confronto su un limitato insieme di sequenze video utilizzando metriche ampiamente note per le quali esistono gia’ le implementazioni, per esempio il PSNR. Al termine del lavoro le implementazioni sviluppate verranno poi rese disponibili per l’utilizzo da parte della comunita’ di ricerca, andando cosi’ a costituire un asset tangibile del curriculum del neolaureato.
Requisiti :
- Buona capacita’ di programmazione (C o C++ or Matlab)
- Buona capacita’ di interpretare ed implementare formule matematiche
